When it comes to hanging out with friends, the best moments often come from great conversations. Whether you’re catching up over coffee or hanging out on a weekend, having interesting topics to discuss can make the time fly by.
Here are some fun and engaging topics that you can bring up with your friends to keep the chat lively and enjoyable. Each topic includes some Chinese vocabulary and example questions to help you get started!

1. Travel Adventures
Travel is always a fascinating topic. You can share stories about places you’ve been or dream destinations you want to visit.
Chinese Vocabulary:
旅游 (lǚyóu): travel
风景 (fēngjǐng): scenery
文化 (wénhuà): culture
Example Questions:
你最喜欢去哪个地方旅游?(Nǐ zuì xǐhuan qù nǎgè dìfāng lǚyóu?) Where is your favorite place to travel?
你有没有去过黄山?那里的风景怎么样?(Nǐ yǒuméiyǒu qùguò Huángshān? Nàlǐ de fēngjǐng zěnmeyàng?) Have you been to Huangshan? How was the scenery there?
如果你可以去任何一个地方,你会去哪里?(Rúguǒ nǐ kěyǐ qù rènhé yīgè dìfāng, nǐ huì qù nǎlǐ?) If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
 
2. Favorite Books and Movies
Books and movies are timeless conversation starters. You can discuss your favorite genres, recommend recent reads, or debate the best movie adaptations of books.
Chinese Vocabulary:
电影 (diànyǐng): movie
小说 (xiǎoshuō): novel
角色 (jué sè): character
Example Questions:
你最近看了什么好看的电影?(Nǐ zuìjìn kànle shénme hǎokàn de diànyǐng?) What good movies have you watched recently?
你最喜欢的小说是什么?为什么?(Nǐ zuì xǐhuan de xiǎoshuō shì shénme? Wèishénme?) What’s your favorite novel? Why?
如果你可以和电影里的一个角色交换生活,你会选择谁?(Rúguǒ nǐ kěyǐ hé diànyǐng lǐ de yīgè juésè jiāohuàn shēnghuó, nǐ huì xuǎnzé shéi?) If you could swap lives with a character from a movie, who would you choose?

你最喜欢用什么乐器演奏?(Nǐ zuì xǐhuan yòng shénme yīqì yǎnzòu?) What’s your favorite musical instrument to play?
如果你有更多时间,你会学习什么新技能?(Rúguǒ nǐ yǒu gèng duō shíjiān, nǐ huì xuéxí shénme xīn jìnéng?) If you had more time, what new skill would you learn?
